PFA Fines 29 Breakfast Points for Food Safety Violations in Lahore

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has imposed fines totaling Rs. 445,000 on breakfast outlets across Lahore following a targeted enforcement operation.

Acting on the directives of Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, PFA teams inspected 29 breakfast points in the city’s Food Street, Samanabad, and Mozang areas, taking action against multiple establishments for breaching hygiene and food safety regulations.

During the inspections, PFA officials discarded substandard cooking oil, stale vegetables, and other prohibited items found at several outlets. The teams cited food business operators for poor hygienic conditions, including dirty freezers, rusted utensils, improper storage, and generally unsanitary environments.

DG Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that some breakfast points were operating near open drains, with foul odors and filthy washing areas further compounding the health risks. Many outlets also lacked essential documentation, such as staff medical fitness certificates and required operational records.

Improvement notices were issued to ensure future compliance with food safety standards. The DG emphasized that the use of substandard and unhygienic ingredients poses serious health risks and will not be tolerated.

The PFA has urged the public to report any food safety violations by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
