Karachi is likely to witness its first spell of monsoon rain over the upcoming weekend, while the remainder of the week will remain mostly hot and humid, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Meteorologists have indicated that rainfall may arrive in the port city by Saturday or Sunday, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave.
As per the PMD’s forecast, Sindh is expected to experience hot and humid weather on Thursday, although areas such as Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, and nearby districts may receive rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Partly cloudy skies are expected across the province on Friday, with the possibility of rain and thunderstorms in Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Nawabshah, Karachi, and surrounding areas.
The weather department earlier predicted that the first monsoon spell in Sindh would occur from June 25 to June 28, bringing rain to the southeastern and upper parts of the province. Affected areas may include Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmore, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi.
Authorities have also issued an advisory for possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi and Hyderabad, particularly on Friday, June 27, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
