The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a public holiday across the province on the first day of Muharram to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial authorities, the holiday will be observed on 1st Muharram 1447 Hijri, subject to the sighting of the new moon, as confirmed by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
It is worth noting that the committee is scheduled to meet today to determine the moon sighting and confirm the official start of the new Islamic year.
