The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced plans to implement a globally aligned Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system aimed at modernizing medical education and improving healthcare delivery across the country.
In a major development, a delegation from the U.S.-based Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) visited Islamabad for strategic meetings with PMDC leadership. Over two and a half days, experts from leading institutions participated in sessions focused on creating a future-ready CPD regulatory framework for Pakistan.
The initiative aims to establish a structured, evidence-based CPD system that ensures medical professionals remain updated and competent throughout their careers. PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj and ACCME President Dr. Graham McMahon led the sessions, emphasizing global best practices.
The ACCME delegation also met with National Health Services Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, who expressed full support for the project.
According to PMDC, this reform will align Pakistan’s medical education with international benchmarks, enhance patient care, and boost the global recognition and employability of Pakistani healthcare professionals.
“This marks a transformative milestone for healthcare in Pakistan,” said Dr. Taj, adding that PMDC is committed to promoting continuous learning and professional excellence in partnership with both national and international stakeholders.
The new CPD system is expected to significantly elevate healthcare standards and rebuild public trust.
