Lahore and parts of Punjab were shaken by earthquake tremors on Tuesday morning, sparking brief panic but causing no reported harm or destruction.
According to initial reports, the tremors were also experienced in Sheikhupura, Okara, and Kasur. The quake lasted only a few seconds, prompting many people to evacuate buildings as a precaution. Social media was quickly flooded with accounts from citizens describing swaying ceiling fans and light furniture movement.
Officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed seismic activity in the region. However, they stated that the exact magnitude and epicentre would be announced after a final assessment. Rescue services and local administrations were placed on alert, but no emergency measures were required as there were no reports of injuries or structural damage.
Seismologists note that earthquakes in Pakistan are common due to the country’s location near the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This region is particularly prone to seismic activity, and similar tremors have been reported in recent months. In May 2025, moderate earthquakes were recorded in northern Pakistan, and earlier this year, several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan also experienced minor quakes, though none resulted in significant damage.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and follow safety protocols in the event of aftershocks. The PMD is expected to release further details on the earthquake’s magnitude and epicentre soon.
