England’s famed County Cricket circuit could see another Pakistani addition in the future as spin maestro Sajid Khan has made it clear he is determined to broaden his horizons beyond the subcontinent, setting his sights firmly on a stint in the prestigious circuit.
Speaking to reporters during the ongoing Skills Development Camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, the 31-year-old off-spinner confirmed he is in advanced discussions with county teams, with a potential deal not far off.
“I’m in talks regarding county cricket, and we’ll soon know about the contract. It’s my wish to play county cricket,” Sajid Khan said, his tone reflecting both optimism and quiet determination.
County cricket has long been a finishing school for Pakistani spinners, offering them the chance to master bowling in varied conditions and learn from some of the most demanding environments in the sport. For Sajid—who has built his reputation primarily as a red-ball specialist—the move could prove pivotal in adding fresh dimensions to his craft.
Sajid Khan’s ambitions don’t stop at county cricket. He has also made it clear he wants to break into Pakistan’s white-ball squads, including the Pakistan Super League—a format he hasn’t yet been able to fully showcase himself in.
“It’s my wish to play all white-ball formats, including the PSL. I’ve been working hard and, InshaAllah, you’ll soon see me in white-ball action,” Sajid Khan said.
Still, his heart remains tethered to the longest format. Calling Test cricket an “honor,” Sajid spoke with pride about donning Pakistan whites, while also urging the cricket board to schedule more Test matches to help the team improve its international ranking.
“Playing Test cricket is an honor. I started my career in white-ball formats but have great pride in playing Tests. I also hope we get more opportunities in Tests so our rankings can improve,” Sajid Khan said.
As Sajid Khan waits for the county deal to materialise, his message is clear: he is ready to embrace new challenges, wherever they may come.
