Illegal Pet Lion Mauls Family in Lahore

A pet lion escaped from a farmhouse in Lahore’s Shah Di Khui area on Thursday, attacking a family and leaving three people—including two children—seriously injured.

The incident occurred at a farmhouse in Johar Town, where the lion broke free from an unsecured enclosure and mauled those present.

The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage with the public demanding action against the owner for keeping a dangerous wild animal in a public residence.

The victims were rushed to Jinnah Hospital, with the children reported to be in critical condition as doctors fight to save their lives.

The Punjab Wildlife Department responded swiftly, capturing the lion and evacuating the area.

Legal proceedings have been launched against the owner, Malik Azam Murtaza (alias Shani), who did not possess a valid license and failed to meet safety standards.

Authorities confirmed that keeping a lion without proper licensing is a non-bailable offense in Punjab, carrying penalties of up to seven years in prison and a fine of Rs. 5 million.

The Wildlife Department is currently searching for the absconding owner.

Officials have urged citizens to report illegal wildlife ownership via helpline 1107 to prevent further tragedies.
