The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide monsoon alert, warning of heavy rainfall and flash flood risks across Pakistan from July 6 onward.
The alert, based on forecasts from the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), highlights the potential for flash floods in northern areas between July 7 and 12.
Widespread rain is expected in all provinces, including Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
In Punjab, isolated to heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast from July 6 to 10, affecting major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned of urban flooding and rising river levels, especially in northern and central districts.
Departments such as Rescue 1122 and the Water and Sanitation Agency have been placed on high alert.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to see heavy rain in districts like Swat, Chitral, and Peshawar, while Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK may experience flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous regions.
In Sindh, moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
Balochistan’s PDMA has issued a separate alert for 20 districts, warning of flash floods and waterlogging from July 4 to 8.
The NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors during severe weather, and keep away from flood-prone and high-altitude areas.
Tourists are strongly advised to postpone trips to northern regions. Local authorities have been directed to ensure emergency teams are ready, drainage systems are clear, and public awareness campaigns are active.
Motorists are warned not to drive through flooded roads or underpasses.
