Punjab Allocates Rs. 250 Million to Build New Classrooms in Schools

The Punjab government will build new elementary classrooms in 1,139 schools across the province. The total budget for this project is Rs. 250 million.

This initiative aims to strengthen Early Childhood Education (ECE) infrastructure and address the growing need for improved learning environments in public schools.

According to the plan, each selected school will receive Rs. 250,000 for the purchase of books, furniture, and learning kits.

The government will transfer funds for building ECE rooms directly to the accounts of school heads, who will be responsible for completing construction by the specified deadline.

Previously, Punjab built 5,000 ECE classrooms across the province, including 209 in Lahore alone.

However, recent assessments found that 80 percent of schools now have damaged ECE kits that the government provided three years ago.

School heads have called for the urgent provision of new ECE kits to ensure effective early learning.

Officials expect the government’s latest move to enhance the quality of early education and give young learners better facilities and resources.

Recently, the Punjab Education Department uncovered 1.8 million ghost students enrolled in government schools across the province.

The massive fraud had cost the Punjab government an estimated Rs. 50 billion annually.

The education department, working with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), discovered the issue.
