KP Uses Drone-Jamming Technology for First Time

In a first, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police deployed drone-jamming technology during Ashura processions in Peshawar on Sunday to enhance security.

According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qasim Khan, the technology was introduced for the first time as part of a broader strategy to safeguard mourners during Yaum-i-Ashura.

“A drone-jamming gun was used for the first time during the Ashura procession,” he said, adding that the Peshawar Anti-Drone System effectively disabled suspicious drones within a range of up to three kilometers.

The move comes amid growing concerns over the use of drones by terrorists in KP’s southern districts. CCPO Khan stated that the new system allows police to jam and neutralize any potential drone threats during public gatherings.

Overall, Ashura processions across the country concluded peacefully. A total of 4,836 processions and 5,480 majalis took place in various cities, with 12 processions held in Peshawar alone.

Thousands of police officers, including snipers and rescue teams, were deployed nationwide to ensure the safety of participants.
