The situation at Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has escalated after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered cases against several company officers.
In response, LESCO engineers and employees have announced a strike across all offices, set to begin Tuesday, and have called for a protest at the company’s headquarters.
The dispute centers on recent actions taken by LESCO against electricity theft. According to company sources, LESCO teams identified and acted against flour mills in the Shahpur division for stealing electricity.
A case was registered against the flour mill administration at Chohang police station, and detection bills were issued for the stolen electricity.
However, following these actions, the accused parties filed petitions with the FIA against the LESCO officers involved in the anti-theft operations.
As a result, the FIA registered cases against several LESCO officials, including Executive Engineer Sana Muhammad and SDO Shahpur Hassan Raza.
Other senior officers, such as Exec M&T Aamir Ikram, Director Commercial Rizwan Sibghatullah, and Director Customer Services Abbas Ali, are also under investigation. In a separate incident in the Baghbanpura division, cases were registered against Exec Kamran Naveed and SDO Tanveer after LESCO issued detection bills for electricity theft in that area.
The LESCO Engineers Association has strongly condemned the registration of cases against its officers, particularly when the complaints originate from individuals accused of electricity theft. The association argues that such actions undermine efforts to curb power theft and demoralize staff tasked with enforcing the law.
In protest, LESCO engineers and employees have announced a complete strike and will stage a demonstration at the company’s headquarters. The association has demanded the immediate withdrawal of cases against the officers and called for protection for staff performing their duties against electricity theft.
