The district administration has declared Friday, July 11 as a public holiday across Vehari in connection with the annual Urs of Baba Haji Sher Diwan, a prominent Sufi saint known for his spiritual legacy.
As per the official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Imrana Tauqeer, all government offices in the district will remain closed for the day. However, the holiday will not apply to ongoing exams being held by educational boards and universities, which will continue as planned.
The announcement is intended to facilitate the large number of devotees expected to attend the multi-day Urs celebrations, which feature religious gatherings, spiritual activities, and cultural events. The Urs draws participants from across Punjab and beyond, making it one of the region’s key annual events.
Despite the holiday, departments providing essential services such as health, sanitation, security, and emergency response will remain fully functional to ensure smooth arrangements throughout the festivities.
Local authorities have instructed relevant departments to make adequate security and logistical arrangements, including crowd management and public safety measures.

What’s this new culture of celebrating every tiny death/birth ceremony in Pakistan? We, as a nation are now looking for holidays without thinking how much loss we are giving to our kids/students with such unplanned holidays. Already Pakistan’s weather and law conditions are unpredictable, let’s stict to such safety holidays.
I would suggest, instead of giving a holiday why not ask educational institutions to recite Drood & Fatiha. This will help our students to pay tribute and remember such respectable personalities otherwise it’s only going to be a holiday….
If people specially students and field workers including indoor or outdoor are happy to have a holiday its batter to relax for them because we have very poor culture of education i had done my graduation from karachi while , intermediate from islamabad and primary, secondary education from Azad jammu and kashmir i know very well about studies and working environment.
Need to change our syllabus and way of teaching Instead remembering books we need to deliver practical knowledge and for that kind of culture teacher needs to work practically in their fields they dont know the application of that theory which is delivered to students thats why 90% students are job less or doing things in which they are not interested they don’t love to do as a result they fail.
We need more holidays to relax our minds!
