KMC Launches Citywide Operation Against Drug Addicts

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched a citywide operation targeting drug addicts involved in the theft of iron rods, bridge railings, and other public infrastructure.

This action follows a surge in public complaints about stolen materials from bridges, buildings, poles, and boundary walls throughout Karachi.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab has instructed authorities to remove drug-addicted individuals from roads, sidewalks, and other public spaces. Those found are being safely relocated first to the City Wardens Headquarters and then to rehabilitation centers for treatment.

According to KMC spokesperson Daniyal Siyal, special city warden teams have been assigned to each district to ensure the process is handled securely and respectfully, with the goal of preventing these individuals from returning to public spaces.

The recurring issue of infrastructure theft has been a major topic in meetings led by the mayor, prompting KMC to allocate land for the construction of large rehabilitation facilities as a long-term solution. The mayor has also made this initiative a top priority for the city.

“These thefts not only damage vital infrastructure but also undermine the social fabric of Karachi,” Siyal said. “For a small amount of money, the city’s safety, appearance, and public property are being put at risk.”

KMC remains dedicated to restoring order in public areas, protecting public assets, and supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of those affected by substance abuse.

In a related development, Mubina Town police detained 13 individuals after receiving reports of drug addicts gathering near University Road and surrounding neighborhoods.

SHO Chaudhry Nawaz stated that the police conducted raids at the reported sites, took the individuals into custody, and transferred them to a rehabilitation center for treatment and recovery.
