Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled the UTC-UX Fusion, a next-generation traffic signal control system powered by artificial intelligence and digital twin technology.
The UTC-UX Fusion system dynamically adjusts traffic signal timings using real-time data and predictive modeling. This allows for responsive changes at intersections, easing bottlenecks and reducing delays during peak hours. A key component of the system is its use of digital twin technology: virtual simulations that test traffic scenarios before implementation.
The system integrates AI-based traffic prediction and future sensor data to continuously improve signal responsiveness. It also allows for priority-based traffic management, ensuring smoother flow for emergency and high-priority vehicles.
According to RTA estimates, the new system could lead to a 20% reduction in journey times on major roads and significantly enhance intersection performance. The technology is expected to deliver smoother commutes, particularly during rush hours.
This rollout follows recent upgrades at key junctions like the Al Wasl–Al Manara intersection and supports ongoing initiatives to improve road safety and sustainability.
RTA plans to expand the integration of sensor-based data across its traffic network, further optimizing signal operations through continuous AI learning.
