Microsoft Office Will Stop Getting Updates on Windows 10 After This Date

Microsoft has confirmed it will stop introducing new features to Microsoft 365 Office apps on Windows 10 starting in August 2026. While security updates will continue until 2028, feature development will shift exclusively to Windows 11.

Feature Updates to End in Stages

According to Microsoft’s timeline, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers, as well as business users on the Current Channel, will no longer receive new Office features on Windows 10 after August 2026. Monthly enterprise channel users will see feature support end on October 13, 2026. Semi-annual enterprise channel users will lose feature updates beginning January 12, 2027.

Earlier this year, Microsoft reversed a decision that would have ended security updates for Office apps on Windows 10. The company has since committed to maintaining security updates through October 10, 2028. However, to access the latest productivity features in Microsoft 365, users will need to upgrade to Windows 11.

Despite Microsoft’s efforts to encourage upgrades, a significant number of users still run Windows 10. Windows 11 has recently surpassed Windows 10 as the most widely used desktop operating system, yet millions of older devices remain. Microsoft will end general support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, though extended security updates will be available, including one free year if users enable Windows Backup.
