To improve transparency and curb malpractice in the issuance of driving licenses, the Punjab Traffic Police is set to introduce a modernized testing system across the province. The new system aims to eliminate the influence of recommendations, bribes, and human bias in the assessment process.
According to DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, testing vehicles will soon be equipped with internal and external cameras as well as advanced sensors. These upgrades will record all actions of the test-taker in real-time, ensuring that any mistakes are automatically documented and assessed by the system. This automation is intended to eliminate the possibility of manual interference or subjective judgment during the testing process.
In addition to the vehicle upgrades, the entire licensing process will also incorporate biometric attendance to verify the identity of each candidate. This step is aimed at preventing impersonation and further tightening system security.
The traffic department plans to deploy new vehicles equipped with modern technology to all driving test centers in Punjab. These specially outfitted vehicles will be standard across the province to ensure consistency in testing procedures.
DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir revealed a concerning statistic: only 17% of drivers in Punjab currently hold valid driving licenses. The department hopes that this technological overhaul will not only raise the number of licensed drivers but also allow for stricter action against unlicensed and unqualified individuals operating on the roads.
