Punjab Expands Free Wi-Fi Spots to 22 Cities

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has significantly broadened its public Wi-Fi initiative, doubling its footprint across the province to improve digital accessibility.

Officials from the PSCA confirmed that the number of free Wi-Fi access points in Lahore has been increased from 230 to 430. Additionally, the service has now expanded from 11 to 22 districts, including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Hasan Abdal, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree.

This move follows a series of recent upgrades aimed at enhancing internet access across urban and semi-urban areas in Punjab. Last week, the authority activated public Wi-Fi in Gujrat city as part of this growing network.

According to PSCA data, more than 37.22 million users have benefited from the service to date, with a total data usage of over 905 terabytes. The figures underscore the growing demand for reliable and free internet access in public spaces.

To meet increasing usage demands and ensure better performance, the PSCA has upgraded its infrastructure to Wi-Fi 6 technology. This transition is expected to provide users with faster internet speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections, especially in high-density areas.

The PSCA’s free Wi-Fi project reflects the government’s broader aim to promote digital inclusion and smart city solutions. By improving internet access in public areas, the initiative is helping bridge the digital divide while enhancing convenience for millions of residents.
