FBR Cracks Down on Misuse of Official Vehicles After Karachi Incident

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued strict instructions to all field formations to ensure full compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the use of the recently purchased Honda City cars following an incident in Karachi involving an unregistered vehicle bearing the FBR logo.

The directive was sent to all Chief Commissioners of Inland Revenue, Chief Collectors of Customs, Director Generals (PCS/IR), and Collectors of Customs. It comes after traffic police in Karachi stopped a vehicle that displayed an FBR logo and had no number plate and was unregistered.

The individual driving the vehicle introduced himself as an Assistant Commissioner of FBR. During the interaction, the officer lost composure and visibly misbehaved with the traffic police officers.

The FBR has made it clear that any violation of its vehicle usage protocols will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The letter reiterated the importance of officers conducting themselves with professionalism, restraint, and dignity, especially in public settings. It reminded all officers that strict adherence to prescribed SOPs is mandatory and that their actions reflect on the institution.

In response to the Karachi incident, an important internal meeting was held, during which key decisions were taken regarding the use of new FBR vehicles. Until the new vehicles are properly registered, they will only be allowed to operate with formal approval. Furthermore, unnecessary use of FBR vehicles has been prohibited, and such vehicles must not have tinted windows.

FBR has also warned that any future misuse of operational vehicles, particularly those displaying the FBR logo, will result in strict disciplinary action.

Heads of field formations have been instructed to review the SOPs with their teams and ensure that all officers are sensitized on proper conduct and the importance of maintaining institutional decorum in all public interactions.

  • This is not the only one, i saw few unregistered honda cities with fbr logos picking up children from lgs school.

  • Saw this or similar car plying on main Khayaban-e-Shamsheer yesterday around 5pm.

  • Not FBR check all Govt vehicles. Then u get the result otherwise no use of this Derama. This request from one of poor residents

  • and please give allGovt person suzuki 1000 cc or 1300cc not go up.Then u got the result

  • Was this character in improper dress really an Assistant Director of FBR ? God bless FBR.

  • I just saw one today. White city with fbr logo, no number plate. I mean is this how fbr is mocking law. Becoming a mafia itself ?

  • I suggest, Government must put ban on use of unregistered vehicles, means the vehicle should not be given to the customer until the registration process is completed. Meanwhile, the govt take initiative to expedite the registration process..

  • Check the identity of the driver caught and I’m 1000 % sure that he is not AC, IT but he must be the child of the officer to whom this car has been alloted. The dress of the driver is speaking the truth itself. This is normal routine that the children of officers illegally use the govt vehicles for fun, shopping and personal chores without any fear. This car in video is one from the lot of 1010 vehicles purchased by FBR for field duty to enhance tax collection and the approval of this hefty amount project was questioned / critisized severely and the bill for the purchase of vehicles were rejected several times in the senate. Now every tax payer of this poor country (Pakistan) must observe the utility of this project with their open eyes.

  • First thing is not to issue any vehicle to any Govt officer for personal use else Govt only provide vehicle with driver to the officer for home-office-home pick n drop in such way fuel allowance can be cut, drivers salary will be 15 to 25 thousands and pick n drop fuel cost will not be as much as they are gelling fuel allowance.

  • FBR is a burden on taxpayers money. Why government does not outsource this job to any agency who will perform it’s functions much cheaper and efficient.

  • Not only internal memo, FBR should forward letter to traffic police not to spare anyone from FBR if they violate traffic laws.

  • They can put trackers in vehicles for monitoring any misuse if they serious to avoid misuse.
