In a significant move aimed at public relief, the Sindh government has officially abolished parking fees on all roads across Karachi. A formal notification has been issued, ending the collection of parking charges in all 25 towns of the city.
According to the notification, parking fees will now only be applicable in designated areas, such as specific plazas, plots, or council-owned spaces. The Karachi Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) have been instructed to halt fee collection and ensure full implementation of the order.
The decision follows directives from Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, under whose leadership the Local Government Department has launched an organized campaign to eliminate unauthorized parking fees.
The notification makes it clear that strict action will be taken against individuals or entities collecting illegal parking charges from citizens. This move extends the earlier policy enforced on KMC-controlled roads, now covering all town-level streets as well.
The document further clarifies that only the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is authorized to levy parking fees, and even then, only in pre-approved and designated locations. All other authorities are now barred from collecting any parking charges anywhere in Karachi.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, while commenting on the development, said the decision was made in the interest of the public, adding that no institution is now permitted to collect roadside parking fees. Municipal Commissioners have been directed to ensure compliance, and violations will face legal consequences.
