Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the restoration of the historic aircraft and planetarium located at Chauburji Chowk.
According to media sources, the renovation work is set to be completed by August 14, just in time for Independence Day celebrations.
The aircraft, which has been grounded and exposed to the elements since the 1980s, will undergo a complete makeover. The project includes a fresh coat of paint, new seats, and a full restoration of the cockpit to its original state, making it especially appealing for children and aviation enthusiasts. The adjacent planetarium will also be refurbished as part of this effort.
Once reopened, families and children will be able to tour the newly renovated plane and planetarium, with ticket prices set at Rs 100 for children and Rs 150 for adults. The revival of this four-decker aircraft is being overseen by PIA’s DGM Marketing, Athar Hassan Awan.
This isn’t the first time PIA has restored a public aircraft; a similar project was previously completed in Karachi. The airline also plans to restore another grounded plane in Peshawar soon.
PIA’s spokesperson shared that this restoration is part of a broader rebranding effort, especially as the airline prepares to resume flights to Europe and the UK. The project aims to offer the public a unique, educational experience while preserving a piece of aviation history for future generations.

These old aircrafts be sold to clear the ground and to give better image of KHI airport. Also Karachi airport should extend to Terminal 3 and develop Transit Business having modern international facilities with Commercial shops to boost sale of Pakistan products n earn foreign exchange.
