Pakistan Champions have officially become the first team to reach the final of the 2025 World Championship of Legends after India once again refused to play against them in the semi-final.
This marks the second Pakistan-India match to be cancelled at the tournament, but unlike the previous occasion when WCL management unfairly awarded India a point, Pakistan were declared the winners.
“We respect the India Champions’ decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions’ readiness to compete. Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off. As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final,” an official statement from the WCL read.
The high-stakes semi-final was set to take place today, but was called off after India confirmed their decision not to take the field against Pakistan due to political and diplomatic tensions, despite tournament organizers making efforts to ensure a neutral and secure environment.
The development doesn’t take away from Pakistan’s impressive run in the WCL 2025. Mohammad Hafeez’s team remains undefeated in the tournament thus far with impressive wins over Australia, West Indies, England, and South Africa.
Pakistan’s opponent in the World Championship of Legends final will be decided today when Australia takes on South Africa. The final fixture is scheduled for Saturday, with Pakistan hoping to lift their first trophy after falling short last year.
While the fans will be left disappointed after not witnessing the most anticipated fixture between Pakistan and India, the right team seems to have made it to the final.
