The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Syndicate on Wednesday approved amendments to the Undergraduate Programmes Regulations 2024, providing clearer guidelines on student promotion, probation, and dismissal under the semester system.
Under the revised policy, students enrolled in programmes such as BSc Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and Doctor of Pharmacy must now achieve at least 50% marks in both theory and practical exams separately.
A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 will be required to qualify for a degree.
Students maintaining a GPA of 1.7 or above and passing all subjects will be allowed to progress to the next semester. Those who fail any subject or aim to improve their grades will have an opportunity to take a “resit” exam, held after every two semesters. Failure in the resit will result in the student being moved back to the previous semester, while repeated failure may lead to expulsion from the programme. However, one chance for readmission will be available during the degree.
The updated regulations also make provisions for makeup classes if a student’s attendance falls below the required level.
In addition, the Syndicate ratified revisions to recently declared undergraduate examination results to align them with the updated rules.
The meeting, chaired by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, was attended by Fatima Jinnah Medical University VC Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal, UHS Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Nadia Naseem, Prof. Maryam Malik, Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Prof. Tayyaba Waseem, Prof. Sidra Saleem, Prof. Samina Kausar, and Registrar Kiran Fatima. Prof. Arshad Cheema, Prof. Sofia Farrukh, and senior officials from the Punjab Finance and Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education departments joined via video link.
