A team of four Pakistani students delivered a remarkable performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3, securing four bronze medals for the country.
According to a press release by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), team members Muhammad Aneeq, Ghulam Junaid, Muhammad Saram, and Ahmed Imran Malik each earned bronze medals.
Among 86 competing nations, Pakistan achieved 32nd place—surpassing several technologically advanced countries, including Germany, Austria, Turkey, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia.
This year’s results mark significant progress compared to last year, when Pakistan won two bronze medals and ranked 46th overall.
FBISE credited the achievement to a transparent and merit-based selection process, highlighting it as a reflection of the country’s young talent in computer science and programming. The board congratulated the students, their families, mentors, and partner institutions for bringing pride to the nation.
The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training had tasked FBISE with managing Pakistan’s participation in the Olympiad. To ensure broad involvement, official notifications were sent to all education boards through the Inter Boards Coordination Committee (IBCC), including schools offering Cambridge qualifications.
A total of 528 students registered nationwide. The selection process included two competitive rounds of testing—held in 12 centers across the country—which narrowed the candidates to 25 in the second round, ultimately leading to the final selection of the top four students who represented Pakistan.
