Punjab to Replace Board Exams With New Testing Methodology

The Punjab Schools Education Department has made a significant change by replacing the traditional board exams with an assessment test for students.

According to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, this new assessment test is designed to boost academic performance in grades nine and ten, while also strengthening foundational skills from the early years.

The department has announced that the eighth-grade assessment will be organized by PECTA, which will release detailed guidelines for the exam process within the next 20 days.

Initially, this assessment test will be implemented in government schools. For private schools, the board examination will become optional, with the next session scheduled for February or March of the coming year.

  • Oh look more time waste . First use those tests for ministers, bureaucrats, diplomats then impose them on kids .

    Let’s see how adults fair

  • What is the meaning of this?! Please put these bureaucrats, ministers through a test to see their capability. Let’s see how capable they are

  • Education Minister is an educated person but not an education specialist.Posted for 3years or so because all democrat government complete their tenure in 3 year approximately. He must test this new system in a limited area under the keen supervision of education specialists team from both Govt And private sector. Then check advantages and disadvantages. At last will be decided to implement or not.
My opinion is to replace this system with the project base study system connected with the industrial sector from the start.so unemployment can be reduced .

    • I do not agree with your proposal. Introducing a Project Based system will introduce a system which will not allow competence of one candidate to be compared with another unless you ask students to undertake similar projects. Better employability? No!

  • Yes, there can also be some possible drawbacks and challenges to this assessment test:

    1. Time to understand the new system – Students, parents, and teachers may face difficulties in adapting to the new format.

    2. Teacher training will be necessary – If teachers are not properly trained, the purpose of the test may not be achieved.

    3. Implementation issues – Due to a lack of resources and staff in government schools, the quality of the test may be affected.

    4. Confusion among students – Students who were already preparing for the board exam may feel stressed or confused by the new system.

    5. Gap between private and government schools – Since it is optional for private schools, there may be differences in systems and results between the two sectors.

Here is the comparison chart between the traditional board exam and the new assessment test:

Aspect Traditional Board Exam New Assessment Test

Purpose Focuses more on memory and rote learning Focuses on understanding, skills, and analytical thinking
Exam Pressure High, single final exam Lower, focus on learning
Timing At the end of the academic year During or at the end of the academic year, but more flexible
Feedback Results are received at the end Weak areas are identified immediately
Role of Teachers Only to complete the syllabus Continuous performance analysis and improvement
Student Preparation Style Mostly memorizing and learning notes by heart Preparation based on practical examples and conceptual understanding
Uniformity Same format across the province Initially in government schools; optional for private schools
Impact on Results Good or bad marks are the main measure Understanding and learning quality are the real measure

  • Just because of this unclarity, parents are confused what to do for their Children. Ot has happened when clerk becomes your policy makers and do the stupid ever decision for education.

  • AOA, please do not change complete system abruptly. We have experimented a lot. Now this is the time to consolidate the system by doing fine tuning and bringing transparency so that students, faculty and parents have trust in it. If it is still deemed necessary, please do it as testing project, get the feedback of experts and all stakeholders. Regards

  • LoL this is never happening, our system does not have the courage to change the old school way.

  • Don’t do the experiment at Punjab level. You are increasing holidays and changing the exams criteria, how can students be prepared for this. Actually, the government is not designing friendly and promoting educational policies.
