The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a warehouse, a jam unit, and two sections of a well-known bakery during operations in Lahore’s Kahna and Multan Road areas, imposing fines of Rs. 2.7 million on four food business operators.
During the operation, PFA teams led by Director General M Asim Javaid discovered and destroyed 44,000 litres of expired soybean oil, 30,000 kilograms of pickles and preserves contaminated with fungus, 400 kilograms of expired flavorings, and 3,385 kilograms of chemicals.
The bakery’s cake section and cold storage were closed down due to the use of expired ingredients and poor cleanliness standards.
According to the PFA chief, one of the units was found making pickles and jam from spoiled fruits and vegetables, while another was caught distributing expired and low-quality products in appealing packaging. The action was taken after inspectors found violations of food safety rules, bad smells, and dirty conditions.
The Director General warned that using unsafe ingredients can lead to serious stomach and intestinal illnesses. He also promised that the PFA will continue both planned and surprise checks across Punjab to protect public health. Citizens are encouraged to report any cases of food adulteration by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
How do you “destroy” 44 thousand litres of cooking oil? I hope they didn’t just dump it on the ground or in the drain, because that would be govt. breaking its own laws (environmental law)

DG PFA raided a production unit of a famous bakery named Rahat Bakers in Harbanspura and sealed it over violations of food safety standards like use of expired bread and wrong labelling on different products. PFA teams also shut down Merry Town Foods Products in Aziz Bhatti Town and Irfan Warehouse in Salamat Pura.
Please don’t hide the name of bakers.it will affect other bakers.

Good action by PFA. But 2.7 Million is too low. And 2.7 million, if I am not wrong, according tto the article seems that the fine was divided into the four companies rather than slapping 2.7 million on each of four.

The PFA is doing a wonderful job. The head of the Authority is also in the field. The names of bakery and other unit involved in violations should have been mentioned in your reporting. Such entities do not deserve any relaxation.
