Murree Issues Special Traffic Plan for Independence Day

Murree is bracing for a surge of visitors as Pakistan prepares to celebrate Independence Day, with thousands of tourists expected to arrive from across the country. To ensure smooth travel and public safety, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar has announced a detailed traffic management plan.

Over 200 traffic officers will be deployed to manage vehicle flow and assist travelers. Main access routes, including the Expressway and RMK GT Road, will remain open from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Certain roads — such as View Forth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Imtiaz Shaheed Road — will operate as one-way to ease congestion. Mall Road, a popular tourist destination, will be closed to vehicles to prioritize pedestrians.

The city has been divided into five traffic sectors for better coordination. Heavy vehicles, including large buses, will be restricted between 6:00 AM and 2:00 AM, with checkpoints at Murree Brewery, Bansra Gali, and Lower Topa. Vehicles heading to Azad Kashmir will be diverted via the Expressway.

To address parking issues, no parking will be allowed within 200 meters of key intersections, including GPO Chowk and Kuldana Chowk. Visitors are urged to use designated parking areas. A dedicated Traffic Control Room is available at 051-9269200 for assistance.
