The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released a detailed video guide to help citizens in Pakistan update their names on their Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC).
Required Documents
Applicants must first gather the necessary documents before visiting any NADRA registration centre. A computerised birth certificate issued by the Union Council or Cantonment Board showing the updated name is the primary requirement.
If a computerised birth certificate is not available, applicants can instead provide an affidavit form specified by NADRA Form C1 for a B-Form or Form C2 for a CNIC. A certificate from Dar-ul-Ifta is also needed if the name change follows a change of religion.
Application Process
Once the documents are ready, applicants must visit a NADRA office and obtain a token. When called, biometric verification will be carried out, followed by data entry. The NADRA official will record details, take fingerprints, and capture a photograph. Applicants will be asked to verify the information on a printed form before submission.
The office in charge will then approve the application, during which applicants may be asked questions about their families. NADRA has clarified that there is no requirement for form attestation when making CNIC amendments.
Fee Structure and Processing Time
After approval, applicants will receive an SMS confirmation and must pay the applicable fee either at the NADRA office or online. The charges are:
- Rs. 2,500 for executive service (7 working days)
- Rs. 1,500 for urgent service (15 working days)
- Rs. 750 for normal service (30 working days)
Once processed, the updated CNIC must be collected from the same NADRA office where the application was submitted.
