Punjab to Introduce Teaching License System Like Sindh

The Punjab government has sought Sindh’s experience in introducing a teaching license system, aiming to bring a similar framework to the province.

A delegation from the Punjab Education Department met Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah in Karachi to discuss policies and challenges surrounding teacher licensing. The meeting focused on ways to recognize teachers professionally and improve accountability in the education sector.

Punjab’s Shakil Ahmed praised Sindh for taking the lead in introducing teaching licenses, calling it a step toward giving teachers both dignity and responsibility. He noted that such a system could eventually allow licensed teachers to serve anywhere in the country with greater recognition.

Sardar Shah welcomed the initiative and suggested building a mechanism for stronger coordination between the two provinces. He highlighted that the biggest challenge remains the large number of out-of-school children.

He shared that Sindh has already launched a non-formal education program through public-private partnerships, establishing 3,000 centers to bring nearly one million children into the education system within 30 months.

Both provinces agreed to form a coordination group for regular consultations. At the conclusion of the meeting, cultural gifts were exchanged as a gesture of goodwill.
