Malaysia’s Terengganu state has imposed strict penalties for skipping Friday prayers without a valid excuse. Under recently implemented sharia regulations, first-time offenders risk up to two years in jail, a fine of 3,000 ringgit (about Rs. 2 lakh), or both.
The new measures, announced by the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) earlier this week, significantly increase the penalties compared to previous rules, which capped jail time at six months and fines at 1,000 ringgit (Rs. 66,717) for those missing three consecutive Friday prayers.
To ensure compliance, mosques will display reminders about the new law, and enforcement will involve both public tip-offs and joint patrols with the Terengganu Islamic Affairs Department.
State assembly member Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi emphasized that these punishments would only be used as a last resort.
The original legislation was passed in 2001 and later amended in 2016 to introduce tougher penalties for various religious offenses, including disrespecting Ramadan and public harassment of women.

V Good, after 1400 years after Islam, if Muslim still do not pray the Furz namaz, then they deserve this
Did you read quran 2 177 ? Your deeds matter more than your prayers
Two years jail for skipping a Friday prayer? Kaha se ye law extract kiya inho ne? Kya Allah ne namaz na parhne pe koi saza batai hui h? Kya ye log ab highest authority ho gaye hein jo us matter pe 2 years jail kr rahe hn jispe inki jurisdiction he nahe hei?
Allah ko zarurat h nhe h us namaz ki jo dande ke zor pe parhai jaye. Ye log Islam ke ruh se he wakif nhe hn. Bas apni political point scoring h. Agar dande ke zor pe he namaz parhani the to Ambiya ko kya zarurat the sari zindagi tableegh krne ke aur itni sakhtian bardasht krne ke. This is definately not what Allah wants. He wants people to sumbit to him willfully by choice, not by force. The next law will probably be to become a muslim or face 20 years in jail take jo nhe convert hota wo non muslim he mare
It very good step by Malaysian govt, I pakistan govt should also implement like this
This is either fake or misinformation
Neither of those things are legal in holy Quran 2 177
“Righteousness is not in turning your faces towards the east or the west(offering prayers). Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Books, and the prophets; who give charity out of their cherished wealth to relatives, orphans, the poor, ˹needy˺ travellers, beggars, and for freeing captives; who establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and keep the pledges they make; and who are patient in times of suffering, adversity, and in ˹the heat of˺ battle. It is they who are true ˹in faith˺, and it is they who are mindful ˹of Allah˺.”
