The Punjab government has introduced a new waste tax under its Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) program, initially enforcing it in upscale residential and commercial areas after receiving cabinet approval.
According to the tax structure, urban households on 5-marla plots will be charged Rs 300, while rural households of the same size will pay Rs 200. For 5 to 10 marla houses in cities, the tax is set at Rs 500, with villages continuing at a flat rate of Rs 200.
Houses built on 10 marla to 1 kanal will be taxed at Rs 1,000 in urban areas and Rs 400 in rural areas. For 2 to 4 kanal homes, the levy will be Rs 2,000, while properties exceeding 4 kanal in cities will be charged Rs 5,000. In rural regions, houses larger than 2 kanal will face a flat charge of Rs 400.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has already started distributing official waste tax bills. Collection and monitoring will be handled by LWMC’s revenue and operational teams.
