Resources Future Brings Exclusive Workshop Series on Carbon Markets

Pakistani businesses are catching up on the opportunity to participate in the global carbon markets, generating high impact carbon offsets with monetary returns. While global giants like Microsoft, Shell, and Delta Airlines purchase credits to offset their emissions, countries like Pakistan hold the real potential: creating bankable climate projects that can qualify for international carbon markets. Yet most Pakistani businesses spend too much time guessing if their projects are even eligible, or assuming they need expensive international consultants just to get started.

This is the gap Resources Future, a climate advisory firm, is addressing with their exclusive, (invite-only) carbon markets workshop series at its Islamabad office. The workshops are designed for Pakistani corporates and businesses to learn more about setting up carbon market projects and assess its financial viability.

Why This Matters for Pakistani Businesses

Over the past few years, Resources Future has worked with several businesses that were already running strong sustainability and offset initiatives. However, many did not know that their projects could qualify for the carbon market. This meant missed opportunities and potential revenue.

The workshops aim to fill this knowledge gap by explaining:

  • How can you create a real carbon-markets project – and how to ensure financial viability from day 1.
  • Eligibility requirements – what kind of projects can actually be registered, their revenue potential and how to construct a carbon model.
  • The carbon project life cycle – from feasibility study to monitoring, verification, and credit issuance.
  • Project development and registration – practical guidance on Article 6 and Pakistan’s carbon market policy framework and how best to monetize this for projects.

Can You Earn Carbon Credits?

Companies are often too late to register their projects. The reason lies in the concept of additionality. In plain terms, this means that carbon credits only support projects that would not have been commercially viable on their own. For example, if a city wants to convert landfill waste into energy but struggles with high upfront costs, carbon credits help close the funding gap. In other contexts, carbon credits make green initiatives and businesses commercially viable. Resources Future aims to enable companies act at the right time. This workshop series will help participants in identifying eligible projects early, understanding the registration process, and ensuring no opportunity for carbon credits is missed.

A Space for Collaboration

Beyond the technical content, the workshops will also serve as a networking platform. Professionals from across industries will be able to exchange ideas, build collaborations, and learn from one another.

“Our goal is to ensure that excellent projects shine through and put Pakistan on the global carbon markets map,” Resources Future’s Carbon Markets Lead, Minha Hanif, expressed in this announcement. “This learning space hopes to break silos and open doors for impactful projects.”
