The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has forwarded a request it received from the Pakistan Retail Business Council (PRBC) and the Chain Store Association of Pakistan (CAP) to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The request asked to impose a ban on the popular e-commerce platform Temu, citing concerns over unregulated operations and potential adverse effects on local businesses.
According to an official CCP letter issued on August 22, 2025, the Pakistan Retail Business Council (PRBC) and the Chain Store Association of Pakistan (CAP) raised objections against Temu and Shein, both of which are operating in Pakistan without regulatory approval. The PRBC specifically urged the government to restrict Temu’s activities, claiming its practices could harm domestic retailers and consumers.
The CCP clarified in its communication that it does not hold the authority under the Competition Act, 2010 to impose bans or restrict access to mobile apps available on platforms such as Google Play Store. Instead, it called on PTAs’ responsibility for regulating and restricting access under applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
“In view of the above, the matter is hereby forwarded to the PTA for further necessary action, if deemed appropriate,” the letter stated.
The final decision now rests with the PTA, which may choose to block or impose restrictions on Temu’s services in the country.

looking for bhatta as usual
Our traders sell no 5 goods showing them total genuine. They have pain that public got a platform of getting better quality goods in cheaper prices
Government just want to have money for their luxuries
Failed and negative like you alsways barking like dogs
First thing that pta should not ban temu and she in because they have quality but you should ban daraz because it has no quality and nothing else so you should ban daraz. And temu and she in they’ve good qualities but if they are also doing fraud then ban them too.
It’s all over PTA now I hope they’ll make the best decision.
The prices are raised so much recently because of local taxes that its already impossible to use
Intehai gandy andy han yeh
Instead of competing, Pakistani prefers to ban the competition 😃😃
TEMU and SHEIN products are much much better than the other services and their products. The complainants are jealous of their businesses as they have failed to deliver good high quality products.
This is era of competition so no one can ban no one. complainant should improve their products and should have the guts to compete other products, not cry
Adverse affects on local businesses? What local businesses? This government is going mad and senseless. Won’t let public breath oxygen if it was in their control.
The government has already made the prices on Temu and aliexpress raise too much. Banning them has no purpose at all. The reality is the big baddy ordered it because he is too afraid of china’s growth. What happened on August 14 by the way?
They want to bankrupt Pakistan . Temu is the reason most people can even get good stuff
lol, no. Big buddy doesn’t work that way. Nor do they care about something this small.
Plz do it . They can finally ban pakistan economy
China will ban financial assistance to Pakistan and these people will be on the streets begging
Fun fact . This article has shein ads 😆 🤣 😂
Laanat on them. The local vultures are looking to make a profit as usual. They will buy these items from Temu and sell them at higher rates to make quick profits. Citizenry should rise against this.
Problem is no one think about uplift of Pakistan they all play gimmick try to buried it which is at mercy in hospital oxygen supply
Economy depends on mass increase buying power of masses to generate revenue not ban is answer
Temu is not a threat but it is the saith sahab culture that is the problem
O Allah! Protect us from these oppressors. All of them are thieves. It has now become impossible for the people to be happy. If anyone brings us benefit, these people cannot tolerate our happiness.
Cry babies, cannot bear competition.
Then raise your own standard and give consumer price relief also. Ban is the only option they can think of. Awam k liye acha na sochna kabhi.
Temu zindabad, we all the pakistani people appreciate Temu’s policies to provide low priced and very useful household items to this country where whole the policies are against the poor people to get household items which are very costly. Once again we appreciate Temu’s policies to the poor people.
(PRBC) AND (CAP) blamed on temu and shein . The temu and shein is give all customers best low price products . Now it’s Pakistan is banned international Ecomemer store for eating the money ..
There isn’t a Local competition by any chance, there wasn’t temu before few years but the vast variety of items to chose from is the biggest reason, what is stopping local market to produce the same products, but they want to buy products from same market then want to sell them locally and want it to be called competition? Unjustified
We are a pure country of corrupt culprits. We have use the name of beautiful Religion and We are selfish nation who do not believe in God’s commandments and have no fear of it. We deserve worse. May Allah Guide us and protect us against Internal and external bankruptcy of little bit of Imaan we have. anc May we have good for ourselves and good leaders. Ameen
Retailers and manufacturers in Pakistan don’t want to pay any taxes and have a bad practice to recover it from the end consumer. Even cheaply imported items are being sold at exorbitant prices. These unscrupulous elements do not believe in healthy competition and allowing the consumer to derive value from purchases. For example something that costs 5 yuan in china is being sold for Rs 2000 in Pakistan. If you question the retailer he starts telling you about taxes and exorbitant bills. He still continues paying hefty bills and taxes all by charging immoral profits from his customers. If Temu or the likes are stopped from operating the consumers will suffer. This is the only way left to obtain new and good quality products from reliable suppliers overseas. PTA on the other hand, is not directly responsible for deciding the fate of and ruling in favor of monopolistic competition. The establishment should make a commission for evaluation of monopolistic competition first then decide this matter.
Sukoon se jeene hi nahi Dena pakistanio ko kabhi bhi har cheez ka tax dene k baad bhi har app se masle Hain koi achi cheez bardasht nahi 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Clever title. I’m sure the other CCP won’t look kindly upon something like this being implemented. So, no chance this will ever happen.
Asalaam Alaikum If the domestic retailer in Pakistan would have strong products and fair prices why would Temu affect it? This is an excuse. Some of Daraz product are not good and even have delivery issues. Why Can you allow the people to decide? In business there is always COMPETITION,….
Our business community should compete through quality products instead of asking for bans on other competitors.
Consumers are happy …. problem lies with hoarders, mafia
Chinese will not be happy with us. You ban them and get ready to face the consequences.
Its local market ajaradari. Raised so much tax that the temu products which had reasonable price were surged that its impossible to buy from temu now.we live in country whose gov has one agenda to crush the public and support their own business. Shame on them
Not sure about Temu, but PRBC itself needs to be checked for unregulated operations lol. The retail sector isn’t “crying” because of fairness. They just don’t want to evolve. They would rather keep dumping the same junk on consumers and charging absurd markups.
If awam is getting cheaper stuff WHY to ban chimu, it should be continued.
Banda puchey local market ne agge bara teer mar lea jera innu block kr k hunn mar lena, tax te tax la k economy da bera garq kita pea wa.
There should be healthy competition. On Draz all are thieves, selling very bad things. Some times broken and old things.
Dear responsible officials AOA,
Please tell retailers and producers to improve their quality and reduce prices. Why should consumers suffer due to their high prices and poor quality, let consumers avail better quality materials at reduced prices from TEMU. Thanks and regards.
