On the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial government has approved the establishment of Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) in four additional districts.
According to the Housing Department spokesperson, the new WASA agencies have been established in Murree, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Gujarat under the Punjab Water and Sanitation Authority Act 2025. A Board of Governors (BoG) has also been established for each agency, chaired by a designated chairperson.
The boards will comprise representatives from the Housing, Finance, Local Government, and Planning & Development departments. Additionally, two members of the provincial assembly (one male and one female), the respective Deputy Commissioners, a representative from the Punjab WASA Authority, and three technical experts will also be included. The concerned WASA Managing Director will serve as the board’s secretary.
The spokesperson further added that WASA agencies are already operational in 10 districts, and with the formation of these new bodies, the network is being expanded to cover more areas for improved water supply and sanitation services.
