Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman chaired an important meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) committee room to review the situation in flood-affected districts.
Officials discussed precautionary measures, including the possible extension of summer vacations in schools.
Educational institutions in the province are scheduled to reopen on September 1 after the summer break. However, the government is considering a one-week extension in light of the ongoing flood situation and the use of school buildings as shelters for displaced families.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said schools in affected areas have opened their doors to provide refuge and support to those impacted by the floods. He added that the safety of students remains the top priority.
Authorities said a final decision on whether to extend the vacations will be announced soon after assessing conditions in the flood-hit districts.
