Premier League champions Liverpool can’t stop winning, both on and off the pitch, after finally landing their coveted target, Alexander Isak, sending another statement of intent to the rest of the league.
According to British media, the Reds have agreed a staggering £130 million deal with Newcastle United, making Isak the most expensive player in British football history.
The 25-year-old will undergo a medical before signing a six-year contract, sealing a move that eclipses the previous record fee of £116 million paid by Liverpool for Florian Wirtz earlier this summer.
Isak arrives on Merseyside after a blistering campaign for Newcastle, where he scored 23 Premier League goals and firmly established himself as one of the division’s most lethal finishers. His departure, however, had been on the cards for weeks.
The Sweden international openly expressed frustration with Newcastle—posting on Instagram that “promises were broken”—before being asked to train away from the main squad. Manager Eddie Howe admitted that a sale might be unavoidable given the club’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) concerns, especially after Newcastle splashed a club-record fee to bring in German forward Nick Woltemade.
For Liverpool, Isak’s signing is the headline act in an already blockbuster summer window. The Reds have reinforced across the pitch, with Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez all joining the squad.
The defending champions have started the season flawlessly, winning their first three games. The addition of Alexander Isak who is a proven goalscorer with pace, technical ability, and a towering presence, is seen as a major step toward extending their domestic dominance and boosting their European ambitions.
For Isak, the move represents the culmination of his ambition to play at the highest level. Liverpool have placed their faith (and a record fee) in the Swede to lead the line at Anfield, potentially ushering in the club’s most exciting attacking era since the days of Salah, Mané, and Firmino.
There are no guarantees in football, but with Alexander Isak joining a team that had few holes to begin with, Liverpool may be set for a level of domination the Premier League has rarely seen.
