Saudi Arabia Announces Huge Fine for Smoking in Food Outlets

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has introduced strict new penalties to improve hygiene and safety standards in the food sector, with smoking in food outlets carrying the heaviest fine of 5,000 Saudi riyals (Rs. 3.75 Lac).

The regulations, aimed at curbing unhygienic practices and ensuring consumer protection, outline penalties for both workers and businesses. Food handlers can be fined 1,000 Saudi riyals (Rs. 75,000) for not wearing a face mask or leaving their heads uncovered while preparing meals. Delivery staff failing to wear their company’s official uniform will face a 500 Saudi riyals (Rs. 37,543) penalty.

Establishments that mislead customers by selling frozen juices as freshly prepared will be fined 1,000 Saudi riyals, while workers caught touching their face, nose, or spitting inside food areas could face penalties of up to 2,000 Saudi riyals (Rs. 1.50 Lac).
