The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has completed a detailed survey of old and deteriorating structures within the historic city.
As part of the operation, 86 unsafe buildings were vacated to protect residents. These included 14 buildings at Lohari Gate, 10 at Bhati Gate, 27 at Akbari Gate, 9 at Delhi Gate, 7 at Texali Gate, 2 at Sheranwala Gate, 6 at Yakki Gate, and 4 at Kashmiri Gate.
To support displaced residents, the WCLA arranged for payment of their rents, emphasizing that the primary objective was to safeguard human lives. Officials added that the community awareness campaign proved successful, encouraging residents to undertake repairs of their own houses.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to continuing preservation efforts for heritage sites and public safety, ensuring that both the city’s historic identity and its citizens remain protected.
