Pakistan’s contingent for the 2025 World Athletics Championships is set for a reshuffle after injuries to multiple athletes in the lead‑up to the event.
Sprinter Tameen Khan has become the latest withdrawal after sustaining an injury during training last week. The 100 m specialist, who was scheduled to depart for Tokyo on September 9, pulled up in a practice session three days ago. According to journalist Faizan Lakhani, she has been advised at least two weeks of rest and rehab, ruling her out of the championships.
The setback is a bitter blow not only for Tameen but also for Pakistan’s athletics contingent, as she was slated to compete in the blue‑riband 100 m event against the world’s best sprinters.
Tameen’s absence is particularly disappointing given her rise as the country’s fastest woman in recent years. The Peshawar‑born sprinter has twice held the title of Pakistan’s fastest female athlete and, earlier this year, expressed her ambitions to shine on the international stage.
With Tameen’s injury, Pakistan’s announced contingent has shrunk further. Shajar Abbas is also recovering, and with no firm word on Yasir Sultan or Mueed Baloch, the general expectation is that Arshad Nadeem may be Pakistan’s sole representative in Tokyo.
Arshad himself is returning from surgery, raising the possibility of another medal‑less campaign for Pakistan at the World Athletics Championships.
Setbacks may change the lineup, but they don’t change the mission. All eyes now turn to Arshad Nadeem and if he can conjure up another moment of magic to raise Pakistan’s flag on the international stage.
