Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has announced the launch of a new passenger train service between Karachi and Sukkur, with an investment of Rs. 6 billion. The service will include modern facilities such as air-conditioned coaches and will run on upgraded tracks.
The announcement came during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where the revival of the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) was also discussed. Shah urged immediate collaboration between the provincial government and Pakistan Railways, highlighting that the KCR project had already been delayed for years and needed urgent attention.
The chief minister further proposed outsourcing certain operations to improve service delivery and called for priority upgrades to the Karachi-to-Rohri rail line, which he said would provide major relief to commuters by increasing efficiency and capacity.
During the meeting, both sides also agreed to remove encroachments along railway lines to facilitate new projects and ensure smoother operations in the future.
