Major Road in Karachi Declared No-Parking Zone

With the city bracing for heavy showers and possible urban flooding, Karachi traffic police on Tuesday declared both sides of Tariq Road a “no-parking zone” as a precautionary step.

In a post on X, the traffic police said the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted heavy rainfall and flooding for September 9. To ensure smooth traffic flow, particularly if Sharea Faisal becomes inundated, Tariq Road has been designated for emergency use.

“Citizens, as well as market associations, their members, and administrations are informed that both sides of Tariq Road have been declared no-parking zone,” the statement read. It further appealed to people to avoid parking in the area so that traffic movement is not disrupted.

Earlier in the day, the traffic police reported drizzle in parts of Karachi and advised commuters to drive carefully due to slippery roads. Citizens were also urged to avoid travelling to low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, Karachi Additional Inspector General Javed Alam Odho directed zonal DIGs and district SSPs to brief their teams and provide necessary assistance during rainfall. He also instructed officials to maintain close coordination with other departments to deal with any emergency situation.
