Karachi University to Launch New Degree Next Year

The University of Karachi has announced the launch of a four-year undergraduate program in Aviation Technology and Management, which will be offered through its Institute of Space Science and Technology from the 2026 academic session. Admissions for the new degree will be aligned with the university’s revised entry policy.

The Academic Council, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi, is scheduled to meet today (Thursday) to finalize the admission plan for the upcoming session.

To streamline the process, the Admissions Committee has decided to issue notices earlier than usual. Intermediate results will be expedited, allowing applications to open by late September, with entrance tests set for October. In contrast, admission procedures last year began in late October with tests held in November.

Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, Chairman of the Institute of Space Science, told The Express Tribune that although the Academic Council had approved the program last year, delays in official confirmation prevented student intake.

He noted that admissions will be equally distributed between morning and evening sessions and will rely on entrance exam performance. Only candidates with a pre-engineering background will be eligible.

Highlighting the program’s scope, Dr Iqbal added that the curriculum blends aerospace technology courses with management studies, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to serve the aviation and airline industries.
