Saudi Arabia Joins Hands With ILT20 to Mark Entry Into Cricket

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has moved a step closer to officially entering the cricketing market after the Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation (SACF) signed a landmark partnership with the International League T20 (ILT20).

As part of the agreement, Saudi Arabia will not only host ILT20 matches during upcoming seasons, but the league’s commercial arm, Cricket Investment Company (CIC), will also collaborate closely with SACF to develop infrastructure, nurture domestic talent, and integrate Saudi players into the ILT20 system.

Another notable feature of this agreement is a requirement that each franchise in the upcoming Season 4 auction (on October 1) must sign at least one Saudi player. This pathway ensures that domestic stars will feature in the elite league, boosting exposure and experience. Over time, ILT20 matches will be staged on Saudi soil. The plan includes not only top-tier games but also development tournaments to feed local talent into the main event. Infrastructure, coaching, and commercial initiatives will follow suit.

“We are proud to partner with the ILT20,” said HRH Prince Saud Bin Mishal Al-Saud, Chairman of SACF. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to developing cricket in the country and providing our players with opportunities to grow and succeed on an international stage.”

Saudi Arabia hasn’t been shy about exploring the boomingfranchise cricket model. While this agreement aligns with the Kingdom’s broader Vision 2030 for sports and community development, the ultimate goal may very well be to host its own T20 league, one that rivals even India’s IPL.

For Pakistani fans and cricketers, the Saudi move is intriguing. A large Pakistani diaspora lives in the Kingdom; having top-level cricket played there means fans won’t have to travel far to watch stars live. It also creates another venue in the Gulf for Pakistani players to feature in franchise competitions.

If all goes to plan, we might soon see Riyadh, Jeddah, or Dammam hosting ILT20 matches, a new frontier for cricket in the Gulf.
