Here’s Everything That Happened in Pakistan Sports in September 2025

From heartbreak in Cricket Asia Cup 2025 to glory in Golf and Beach Handball, Pakistan’s September in terms of sports was a mixed bag. Here’s the month that was for Pakistan’s sports:

Cricket

  • Tri-series vs UAE and Afghanistan: Pakistan controlled the tempo and lifted the title. Fakhar Zaman topped the charts with 155 runs; Mohammad Nawaz was the strike man with 10 wickets.
  • Men’s Asia Cup: Fell short in the final against India. Shaheen Shah Afridi led with the ball, Sahibzada Farhan stood up with the bat.
  • Pakistan Women vs South Africa: Series lost 1-2, but Sidra Amin finished as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer and Nashra Sandhu as leading wicket-taker—individuals trending right.

Football

  • AFC U23 Asian Cup: Three played, three lost, one goal (McKeal Abdullah). It stings—and it should.
  • SAFF U17 Championship: Semifinal exit to Bangladesh (0-2). Muhammad Abdullah’s 6 goals were the silver lining.

Golf

  • Fendrich Open (Evansville, USA): Omar made history as the first Pakistani to win a golf title on American soil. That’s a flag-plant moment for the sport back home.
  • 64th National Amateur (Karachi): Saad Habib Malik took the crown in a field featuring international teams—big month for him.
  • 134th Sri Lanka Amateur: Saad Habib Malik finished runner-up. Form traveling well.

Athletics and Road Running

  • World Athletics Championships: Arshad Nadeem finished 10th in the javelin final. Coming off injury, this was about rhythm more than result.
  • Berlin Marathon: 25+ Pakistanis finished. UK-based Shahzada Hussain was the fastest Pakistani overall; Karachi’s Mustafa Jafar the fastest Pakistan-based male; Kaukab Sarwar the fastest woman from Pakistan. Denmark-based Zeeshan Rab knocked out his 41st career marathon and 18th of the year.

Beach Handball

  • Commonwealth Beach Handball: Pakistan won gold—and did it emphatically. Unbeaten, 10 sets won, only one conceded. Shahid Bashri was the tone-setter.

Boxing

  • Youth World Bantamweight: Sameer Khan beat India’s Bunty Singh to become Pakistan’s first-ever Youth World Bantamweight Champion. Bookmark the name.

Tennis

  • Davis Cup World Group II: Paraguay beat Pakistan 3-1. The takeaway was Huzaifa Rehman—real prospect, real composure.
    Squash
  • NASH Cup 2025: Noor Zaman took the title and $29,875. Pakistan squash keeps paying the bills.

Judo

  • Asian Cadet Championship: No medals. Honest assessment needed.

Baseball

  • Asian Baseball Championship: Winless campaign. No standout performances—work to do.

Mountaineering

  • Bari La, Gilgit-Baltistan (5,400m): Pakistan’s first all-women summit—Bibi Afzoon, Mona Khan, Amina Shabbir, Maria Bangash, Zeba Batool, Bisma Hassan, Iqra Jillani, Laraib Batool, Madeeha Syed, and Shahreen Khan. A milestone that goes beyond sport.

September was a month if ups and downs for Pakistan sports. Cricket, Football and Baseball brought out disappointing results while Beach Handball, Golf brought pride to the nation. With a lot of sports scheduled for October, let’s see what it has in store for us.
