The e-challan system has been formally launched in Karachi, marking a major shift in the city’s traffic management. Following its implementation, all traffic police checkpoints have been removed, and challan machines have been withdrawn from traffic sections.
Under the new system, traffic police officials will no longer stop vehicles to issue on-the-spot fines. Instead, violations will be monitored through CCTV cameras installed across the city. Challans will be issued based on photographic or video evidence, which will be sent directly to vehicle owners.
Officials said that the new digital system is aimed at ensuring transparency, fairness, and efficiency in traffic law enforcement. Traffic officers will now focus primarily on maintaining the smooth flow of vehicles. They will only be permitted to remove cars that are blocking traffic, while the practice of lifting motorcycles has been discontinued.
The decision was taken on the directives of Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. DIG Traffic has issued orders to implement the system citywide, calling it a step toward modernizing Karachi’s traffic monitoring and enforcement.
