The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association (DCFA) has announced that milk prices in Karachi will increase to Rs. 300 per liter starting October 11, following failed negotiations with city authorities.
According to DCFA President Shakir Umer Gujjar, a meeting held at the Commissioner Karachi’s office on October 2 ended without any agreement.
He explained that the current production cost of milk has reached Rs. 271 per liter, and when transportation and retail costs are added, the final consumer price stands at Rs. 300 per liter.
Although the proposal to officially notify the new rate was discussed, the Commissioner did not issue a notification, as the meeting was adjourned midway for unspecified reasons.
In response, representatives from the Dairy Farmers Association, Retailers Association, and Wholesalers Association staged a sit-in inside the Commissioner’s office, demanding the immediate issuance of the official price notification.
The groups warned that if the government fails to formalize the decision, the new milk prices will take effect from October 11, in agreement with all major stakeholders involved in the dairy supply chain.
