The federal government has approved a bailout package worth Rs. 2 billion for Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) in Islamabad.
According to reports, the Finance Ministry has already allowed the release of 25 percent of the amount — Rs. 500 million — as the first installment.
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) directed that these funds be disbursed immediately, while also instructing the Education Ministry to conduct a detailed review of the university’s revenue and expenditure.
Additionally, QAU has been asked to resubmit its sustainability plan, with the Education Ministry emphasizing the need for a comprehensive strategy to ensure the university’s long-term financial stability.
It is worth noting that the Rs. 2 billion bailout package for Quaid-i-Azam University was originally announced in the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.

What is this reporting? Where’s the detail about why the bailout package was needed? Where is calling into question the financial malpractice of the university management? This is not journalism.
As the article doesn’t make it clear, why bailout is needed: during the poor economic situation of the country couple of years ago, government fundings were cut down. QAU has been giving out scholarships while attracting little funding, which is the result of negligence on part of the administration who didn’t push thier faculty and students to get fundings and sustain the university. While the situation of QAU was already poor and no wonder someone tried to get funded by western evil (remember the indecent exam questions), corona was the final blow.
For this reason a bailout, non recurring, package has been given.
Other universities like Punjab University (old and big) also had tough situation but survived because they were already securing better fundings and also other income streams.
Its basically a warning for all universities to stop replying on government fund. In the end the students and faculty suffer.
Wao its really really big amount. Tray to utilize this amount in progressive functions.
Well its a good news, but Pakistani Government should focus on the schooling system….. there’s no system for schools, no school buses to remote areas, Bahria Town….DHA ….model Town and many more….and van drivers demand too much fees, also if we’re paying school high fees then where are the facilities? Free lunch in school? Free buses? Free books and uniforms? Nothing kindly this system should be get better sooner it’s already 2025…or lower the school fees so we can afford books, uniforms, lunch fees, and especially van fees
