Pakistan cricket team’s final preparations for the T20 World Cup could include a matchup against Sri Lanka, as reports suggest the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is eager to secure the tour ahead of the global event.
According to senior sports journalist Saleem Khaliq, the PCB is working tirelessly to organise a three-match T20I series in January next year to help the team acclimate to conditions in Sri Lanka, one of the co-hosts of the T20 World Cup. Discussions between the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are reportedly ongoing, with both boards keen to finalize the series schedule soon. The matches are expected to be played in Colombo and Galle.
If confirmed, this short tour would serve as crucial match practice for the national side just weeks before the T20 World Cup kicks off in February 2026. Sri Lankan conditions are expected to closely mirror those the Green Shirts will face during the tournament, offering Pakistan ideal preparation against quality spin and slower pitches.
While official confirmation is still awaited, sources believe the details are likely to be finalized soon, given the cordial relations between the two boards. Sri Lanka is scheduled to play a tri-nation series in Pakistan next month, and another bilateral series would benefit their preparations as well.
With the global event fast approaching, the proposed series in January could be the final test of Pakistan’s readiness, both strategically and mentally, before the quest for another T20 world title begins.
