Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mualla, speaking on behalf of the Ministry, described the Academic Scholarship Program as the UAE’s oldest and most prestigious educational initiative.
He explained that the program originally aimed to expand educational opportunities when local higher education institutions were limited. Over time, its focus shifted toward academic excellence and global competitiveness.
Out of roughly 3,000 annual applicants, only 10% are awarded scholarships. Currently, 592 students—both new and continuing—are studying across 115 top-ranked universities in 22 countries, while 187 students graduated during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Dr. Al Mualla further highlighted that the program is a strategic national initiative designed to send high-achieving Emirati students to elite international universities. Upon their return, these scholars are expected to contribute their expertise to building the UAE’s future.
He concluded, “This program began with the Union’s foundation, when higher education opportunities in the UAE were scarce. Today, it continues to evolve—focusing on excellence, innovation, and preparing our brightest minds to compete globally.”
