Countdown Begins for Pakistan’s T20I Squad for South Africa Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly close to announcing the T20I squad for the upcoming home series against South Africa, with an official statement expected in the coming days.

According to senior sports journalist Sohail Imran, the announcement is likely to take place between October 13 and 15, as selectors finalize the combination for the three-match T20I series beginning later this month. The first match is scheduled for October 28 in Rawalpindi, followed by two fixtures at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on October 31 and November 1, respectively.

With Pakistan’s domestic season producing several standout performers, the selectors and coaching staff are expected to prioritize form, fitness, and adaptability to home conditions while finalizing the squad. Under the guidance of head coach Mike Hesson, the white-ball training camp is already underway at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground.

Several key players who have been a regular since Hesson took over, including Saim Ayub, Hussain Talat, Haris Rauf, Faheem Ashraf, and Sahibzada Farhan, have joined the sessions, which feature both match-based scenarios and personalized training plans.

However, the presence of wicketkeeper-batter Usman Khan and Mohammad Shehzad has caught the attention of onlookers. With Mohammad Haris struggling for form during the 2025 Asia Cup, Usman Khan could be in line for a return to the national setup especially with Mohammad Rizwan’s return looking unlikely.

All eyes are now on Mike Hesson’s selection strategy as Pakistan squad prepares to take on a confident South Africa side in what promises to be a high-octane T20I series.
