The government has announced a major relief package for flood-affected agricultural and commercial electricity consumers, deferring their August bills until December 2025, according to sources in the Power Division.
Under the new arrangement, these consumers will be allowed to pay their August bills in installments from January to June next year. The move is part of a relief effort that has provided a total of Rs. 17 billion in bill waivers and deferrals to domestic and commercial users.
Of this, domestic consumers have received waivers amounting to Rs. 11 billion, while Rs. 6 billion worth of bills for commercial and agricultural users have been postponed. In total, 2.5 million consumers have benefited from the relief measures.
Domestic consumers who had already paid their August bills have been refunded, while commercial and agricultural users have been exempted from bill payments for four months. For commercial consumers, a fixed amount will be added to their bills from January to June to cover the deferred payments.
Officials say the decision was made to ease the financial burden on those affected by recent floods, ensuring that vulnerable households and businesses have time to recover before resuming regular payments.
